You are gone to the quiet of forevermore--
The silence of the everlasting dead;
There are no moving changes in forevermore,
When all is silent, tombed in staling dread.
What see you in the stillness of forevermore--
Where all is silent, winter without spring--
What see you in the cavernous forevermore,
The place of withered man and cast-off thing?
What hear you in the silence of forevermore,
Where all is vapor, mist and stilled birdsong--
What hear you in the silence of forevermore,
And has the silence there already stretched too long?
What hear you without ears--what cry you without tears--
what see you without eyes--what tell you without lies?
Come tell me of forevermore, come leave you of the grave--
Come whisper of forevermore, and the silence that you save--
Cast off the cloak of evermore, and don the mail of day,
Come, live again, and change again--cast evermore away!
