bone-dreams
in moonlight:
his heart
remembers
cold steel like winter.
behind his eyes
seeing the pale gleam
of his own fingers
sinew in tatters
along humerus and femur.
stirring,
he hears them rattle.
he awakens
to her arms
around him, like the sea.
her hair is molten and her skin white flame.
she touches all his scars
and says his name.
he kisses
her
until he's sure
that he still feels.
until he
hears
only the ship, breathing
her voice in his ear
and two hearts beating.
