A Change in the Wind
Written for the Poetry Drabble Challenge in April 2005

Her gentle sigh rises to him so sweet and true
Yearning to trust, reaching tentatively, taut
As the moon guides the sea bringing about the
Wind's whispered promise of shores anew.

He'd heard nary a sweeter tune at any port
He smiles to his maiden, recaptured; yet not fully restored.
Still bearing echoes that need to be expunged by
A remedy swift and sure, found in a place with no consort.

The closer she pulls, their keening resonance fades
Bolder she runs unhindered and high-spirited
Ahead of the winds, toward the gathering mist
"Soon enough my love" whispers her Jack of Spades.
