~ Delicious Repast ~
Sequel to Seconds

They stayed abed all that day, until early evening when they elected to dress for dinner. It was served to them in a secluded alcove of the rain-washed garden of the inn. Crystal, china, and linens were all of the best, and there were several delectable courses, though Elizabeth, languorously sated, had little appetite. James seemed concerned by this. His bride, amused, basked in his coddling and care.

When she had eaten enough to assuage his fears, he said, "That's better. You must keep up your strength."

"James!" she objected. "Am I some delicate, milk-and-water miss?"

He considered this, most thoughtfully, and a surprisingly wicked little smile touched his lips. "No. I wouldn't say that."

Fleeting glimpses of the night and day just past came to mind. It had all been of a most satisfactory nature, and yet a tremor of renewed desire now shook her to the core.

She felt herself coloring, and sat up abruptly, very straight, and then colored more at the tender mementos of their encounters. She said, faintly, "I… I find myself somewhat fatigued, actually. Shall we retire, again?"

He got up, and she stood as he came round the table to her, and she could not help giving a soft sound of relief as he took her in his arms and kissed her.

~ Morbid Musings ~

Standing ankle deep in the soothing water that lapped at his feet, the young boy marvelled at the beauty of the night. He really shouldn't have been up in these hours of darkness but he hadn't been able to resist making his way down to the shore of Port Royal to look out over the dark waters and feel the sea breeze whip across his face and through his short, brown hair.

The call of the sea had always been strong and yet the boy had no idea why. His father had been a merchant sailor yes, but he could feel that the call did not come of that. He was sure it had something to do with his long lost father, but did not think it was because of his occupation. Unless his father hadn't been a merchant a sailor?

A tremor shook his lithe form as he felt like he had just hit the nail on the head. But that could not possible! Or could it? Another tremor shook him and this seemed to bring him back out of his morbid musings. What thoughts were these? Of course his father had been a merchant sailor! There had never been anything to suggest otherwise.

Looking over his shoulder, the youth surveyed the town which had so recently become his home. It was true that he felt that he owed his life to the people of this settlement, but he couldn't help but feel that by staying here, he was missing out on something. But as it was just a feeling, there was no way he could express himself to anyone, not even his new master, the kind old man and his wife who had taken him into his home and agreed to look after him and teach him his trade.

Stepping out of the water and turning towards his master's quarters, Will Turner knew that one day he would find out what was missing. One day, his destiny would be fulfilled, and his life would finally explain itself, in the most unusual of circumstances.

~ One True Love ~

Jack could feel her tremble under his gently guiding hands, her excitement and spirit echoed in his every move. She rose and fell, sighed and turned at his touch. He loved his mastery of their dance, the way her tremors would fill him with joy until he was ready to burst with it. He loved her passion and her beauty, and didn’t mind at all when sometimes she would fight him for supremacy. She was, and always would be the fire in his heart, the balm to his soul. She was his Black Pearl, the mistress of his world

~ The Call ~

It was the the Pearl who felt the call first, this time. A soft tremor beneath their feet as she shuddered in the still waters tipped off her crew even before the winds changed. Her tattered sails whipped furiously, protesting the abuse. The skies above them clouded over, but it was too late by then, too late by far. They could all feel it. They all knew what it meant.

The gold. The gold called to them.

All heads faced the same direction, but it was only Barbossa, triumphant smile on his face, who spoke those two, fatal words. "Port Royal."

~ A Change In Command~

The Pearl knew that something was not right. She felt it deep in her timbers. For days now, her crew had been anxious and bad-tempered, and at last, it had come to this. Her fair young captain, whom she loved, stood on end of a plank that jutted out over the water. His wrists were bound, and he had the broken look of a man betrayed. Not willing to let himself be pushed, he dove bravely off the side and swam toward the empty white beach. The moment he hit the water, a tremor coursed through the Pearl’s keel and ribs. Her darling boy was gone, and the dark presence of her new captain settled uneasily upon her.
